Yarnall Abbott (1870-1938)

Born on September 23, 1870 in Philadelphia, Yarnall Abbott was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He practiced law with his father before becoming a full-time artist.
He studied art in Paris and then returned to the United States where he continued instruction at the Pennsylvania Academy. He was a summer visitor to Rockport and painted many marine and landscape scenes there. He also used his legal skills to draft the constitution and by-laws of the Rockport Art Association.
He was a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club, an exhibitor at the Society of Independent Artists, a writer who contributed to art magazines, and a lecturer on art appreciation. Abbott died June 24, 1938 in Rockport, Massachusetts.
